Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been present in Somalia since early 2004 and has since expanded its Horn of Africa Programme to Kenya in 2006 and to Ethiopia in 2011. Since 2004, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has demonstrated a regional competence and expertise in working with displaced populations.
The Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices and operations in Somalia (Puntland, Somaliland and Mogadishu), Kenya (Dadaab and Kakuma ), Ethiopia (Addis Ababa, Dolo Ado, Shire,Gambella and Asosa), South Sudan (Juba, Awil, Alek and Aweril) and Yemen (Sa’naa and Aden).
The NRC Horn of Africa & Yemen mission is an expanding programme. NRC started its operations in Kenya in the refugee camps in Dadaab in February 2007. NRC has WASH, Shelter, Education, Food Security and Livelihood and Information Counseling and Legal Assistant programmes implemented in the refugee camps in Dadaab.
The purpose of this internship is to provide a suitably qualified Logistics/Procurement graduates with the opportunity to work and gain experience with NRC Nairobi. The Intern is expected to provide support to the organization’s activities in the form of logistics and procurement of goods and services for project activities in the Regional Office under supervision of experienced staff in the Logistics Department.
The selected candidate will be based in Nairobi and report directly to Logistics Coordinator
Procurement Internship Job description
- Provide assistance to Logistics and Procurement Officers in their daily activities and learn all NRC procurement guidelines, SOPs, documentation and systems as per the current Logistics Handbook and adhere to them while executing assigned tasked
- Assist the Assets/ Inventory / Warehouse assistant with the day today activities of receiving, inspecting, tagging, packing and dispatching os supplies to field offices.
- Assist with data entry for reports, bids/tenders and related transactional documentation and provide support in the preparation of RFQs under supervision of experienced officers.
- Assist with filing work and archiving of all old files as well as retrieval of records form the archive rooms.
- Step in during periods of absence of Logistics personnel in performing of tasks under the supervision of the Logistics Coordinator or designated officer.
- Filing relevant logistics documents to the JD of the Logistics Assistant
- Perform any other official duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time
Qualifications for Procurement Internships in Kenya
- Relevant university degree/Diploma/Advanced Certificates, preferably in Logistics or Procurement or equivalent work experience
- Previous experience with NGOs procurements in Nairobi will be an advantage but not mandatory.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in the English and Swahili language, both oral and written
- Able to learn on the job.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of using Web based procurement systems such as Agresso66 is an advantage but not mandatory.
Relevant Experience
- 1-6 months working experience will be an advantage but necessary for internship positions

Duty station:Nairobi
Contract period is for 6 Months with possibility of extension. Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions, The candidate will observe NRC’s code of conduct and working hours for the NRC Office in Nairobi
