By now you may have realised that finding a job in Kenya requires prowess, you need to have a clearly laid out plan and a clear strategy in your job search. It is the techniques you follow in the applications that will matter most and not the number of applications sent or interviews you go to.

One technique that has worked for many today is establishing a connection with a recruitment firm or agency because there will always be a job at one time or the other, all you have to do is find it in time and if it’s right for you then you’re at an advantage.

So, How Can You Work With A Recruitment Agency For Your Next Job?

The answer is simple; You must keep a good relationship with the agency.

This does not mean you keep making phone calls or sending emails asking for openings, it means you can identify with a particular firm or agency and subscribe to their job postings so you are in a position to send applications in time.

It also means that if you are invited to an interview and don’t get the job, do not give up and start blaming the agency, try and keep your optimism no matter what.

Muthoni Ndegwa, a Client Service Manager at Corporate Staffing Services says keeping a good relationship with the firm will always work in the job-seeker’s favour unlike being negative and complaining if you haven’t gotten a job after the interview.

“A recruitment officer will always remember a candidate who did well in an interview and consider them for another position. When this happens, it will not be necessary for the candidate to send their applications a new, the firm will be the one calling to ask them for an interview,” says Muthoni.

To keep this good relationship, you need to establish a connection with the firm first and this can be done by doing the following;

1. Identify a real recruitment agency.

The Kenyan job scene has been known to have cons left, right and centre, but you can avoid this by being careful about it. Companies such as Corporate Staffing Services or ManPower are a good start.
2. Subscribe to postings.

These sites have a section where you can add your email address to receive newsletters or postings, this will ensure you get jobs as soon as they are advertised.
3.Register your CV with the firm.

This does not always work across all companies, so be careful. Don’t see a job posting and sit around because your CV is in the firm’s database. Apply!
4. If your job interview goes well and you get the job, then good for you.

If it doesn’t, don’t blame the firm, instead follow up to know what happened so you can get the next one.
