Job Profile

Marketing Job General Description:

  • The BDM will have overall responsibility for marketing the Company’s credit and non-credit products and services, driving business volumes and revenue generation; whilst ensuring customer service quality is maintained and the Company’s brand promise is effectively delivered. This position reports directly to the CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of annual marketing plan and budget.
  • Ensure the attainment of short and long-term financial objectives (profitability) of the Company.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and refine Go To Market plan including identifying and recommending profitable branch locations.
  • Lead in reviewing existing product/ service strategies, pricing, risk levels and their delivery mechanism, in consultation with operations team and other relevant stakeholders, to ensure they meet current client’s needs, alignment to vision, mission, core value, goals, and objectives as stated in long-term and annual business plan of the Company and competitive position of the Company in the market.
  • Coordinate in conducting market research projects to obtain adequate data for analysis; primarily information related to current needs of clients, competitors’ rolling-out strategies, and industry performance trends.
  • Creation and publication of all marketing material in line with marketing plan.
  • Provides technical support to subordinates in development of communication policies, procedures, guidelines, promotional messages, and creative concepts for marketing tool development. Monitor and report on effectiveness of marketing communications.
  • Coordinates successful execution of marketing projects, through media, and distribution channels to ensure optimal resource utilization.
  • Work in collaboration with operations to create marketing strategies/ programs/ activities to promote the new and existing products and services and the Company’s identity and brand image to the public.
  • Conduct branding audits across all branch networks to evaluate and ensure 100% compliance.
  • Work closely with Human Resources Department to design and refine training curriculum and materials and
  • act as one of the key trainers for Operations Division to provide related training topics to operations team especially who work at field level to ensure that they are capable enough to do their tasks with professionalism and good customer service.
  • Work closely with department heads to ensure effective communication on credit policies, processes and procedures, especially with those responsible for enforcing these policies/process/procedures.
  • Building partnerships and relationships with all the relevant stakeholders in the microfinance ecosystem – regulators, utilizers, funders, customers and institutions.
  • Coordinating marketing campaigns and branch sales activities.
  • Manages and follows up marketing & advertising agencies on contract report and other admin works to ensure the timely delivery of the expected results.
  • Lead in preparing project proposals of design, pilot test, and roll-out of initiated/ refined financial and non-financial products/ services & delivery mechanism.
  • Coordinate in developing & updating operations manual of all products/ services to ensure effective and smooth business operations.
  • As team player, take up necessary responsibilities in other business functions with a focus on overall organizational growth.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This Include: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Key Competencies for Marketing Jobs in Kenya

  • Ability to position and differentiate products for maximum profitability.
  • Knowledge in banking & finance activities, and designing products is preferable.
  • A thorough understanding of banking sector/microfinance performance metrics/indicators and the ability to interpret and process operations data.
  • A positive and determined approach to researching and analyzing new business opportunities in both market and financial terms and providing decision-oriented feedback.
  • Ability to translate business goals into a marketing strategy.
  • Ability to compellingly communicate a message through a variety of media including written and verbal communication as well as visual presentation.
  • Commitment to establishing a successful department and function over several years.
  • Understands the needs of a start-up, with willingness and ability to perform duties beyond the scope of work.
  • Have good organizational skills showing ability to manage multiple projects or strands of activity simultaneously to deadline.
  • Possess excellent computer knowledge – Word Processing, Spreadsheet, PowerPoint, Internet, and Email.
  • Have good training skills and ability to communicate to individual/ group in clear, simple terms with collaborative, influential, and service-minded personality.

Education, Work Experience, Knowledge And Skills

  • A Bachelor’s /Master’s degree in business administration, management, economics, commerce, social science or equivalent from a reputable university.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in comparable positions in terms of responsibility in banking or microfinance in a business development, product development or project management role. Prior experience as a member of a senior management team is desirable.
  • Experience in credit origination and credit risk assessment, business experience in (a) micro lending and (b) small & medium enterprise lending, in credit; in addition to mobilization and delivery channel development a plus.
  • Flexible and resourceful; the ability to work in a start-up and willingness to be responsible for a varied set of tasks that will support the company’s growth and expansion.
  • Must have a strong numeric and analytical skills and be capable to systematically and critically think on things that need to be done for any specific job assignment.
  • Ability to persuade and negotiate.
  • Strong selling and prospecting skills.
  • Results driven and proactive.
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships within diverse organizational structures and motivating staff.
  • Demonstrate high integrity, honesty, and commitment and be able to work under pressure.
