Appointment against this position is for an initial period of one year and may be subject to extension. Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s Division of Communications and Public Information (DCPI) communicates UNEP’s core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of UNEP worldwide. This post is located in UNEP/DCPI at the Nairobi duty station and reports to the Chief of Content and Client Services under overall supervision of the Director.

Information Officer Job Responsibilities

The TV/ Video Producer is responsible for the effective and efficient performance of the following duties:

  • Ensure implementation of the Audio Visual strategy by applying the best practices, techniques,technologies and approaches.
  • In consultation with Chief of Content and Client Services, propose programme formats and innovations.
  • Prepare standard operating procedures for digital and other media productions. Update a database of partnerships supporting multimedia production and maintain information related to the media production, dissemination, distribution and broadcast.
  • Plan and implement TV/Video producing activities. Produce various media products such as filmmaking, animation,data visualization, music design,photography,Information technology etc.Shoot,direct,script and edits video material. Oversee the production work of internal staff and outsourced multimedia professionals.
  • Act as a focal point for multimedia production, monitoring and reporting on developments, responding to various inquires.
  • Undertake activities to promote media coverage. Monitor and analyze current events and advise management on the use of appropriate multimedia products.
  • Undertake research , determining appropriate medium and target audience, preparing production plans, obtaining clearances, etc.
  • Initiate and sustain professional relationship with key constituencies. Maintain a quality roster of individual and institutional service providers do deliver excellent multimedia products.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to general services and other junior staff of the unit.
  • Oversee related expenditures and make sure that work has been completed as contracted.
  • Provide other related duties as required.

Qualifications For Information Officer Jobs In Kenya

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in media/multimedia production, production management, filmmaking, or related area .
  • A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in multimedia, filmmaking, broadcast journalism, communication or related field.
  • Experience in international environment is an advantage.

Languages

  • English and French are the working knowledge of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
