Vacancy: Data Management Specialist
The Somalia Program Support Services (SPSS) contract implemented by International Business and Technical Consultants Inc.
(IBTCI) provides support for program-related services to program and technical teams in the USAID/EA/Somalia Office in Nairobi, Kenya.
Part of SPSS’ objective is to monitor and/or verify activities carried out by implementing partners across Somali.
IBTCI is seeking a Data Management Specialist to work closely with the SPSS technical team in Nairobi, Kenya to carry out data management tasks under the Monitoring, Verification and Reporting Activities being carried out by SPSS.
THIS IS A LOCAL HIRE, WITH NO EX-PAT BENEFITS.
- S/he will manage the Mobile System for Field Data Collection being implemented by SPSS. S/he will maintain the system by planning, monitoring, and improving its performance.
- S/he will assist with extracting data from the system and subjecting the data to further analysis and reporting.
Data Manager Job Responsibilities
- Assist the Monitoring, Verification & Reporting (MVR) Manager formulate, implement, and enforce proper data collection policies and procedures
- Participate in the preparation of field data collection tools and equipment
- Contribute to training SPSS Field Staff on Mobile System for Field Data Collection (MSFDC) tools and equipment
- Implement a set of data quality control protocols to ensure data quality, as well as real-time backend data check and verification of collected field data
- Be responsible for daily quality control procedures (including , but not limited to, random phone calls to check visits, and also checking data entry quality)
- Producing data quality reports for the MVR Manager
- Develop and implement data management plans
- Ensure the MSFDC is functional on a day-to-day basis
- Troubleshoot data submission errors and data error issues
- Perform and document procedures for data preparation including data cleaning, standardization and analysis
- Regularly back up data collected using approved protocols for data storage
- Run daily data status reports against set targets and the update the MV&R Manager
- Perform data analysis and reporting
- Produce weekly, monthly, annual data reports
- Develop ad-hoc reports as necessary
- Assist in defining and/or creating data listings, summary table validation, data specifications and/or process data transfers in preparation for statistical review and/or data management audit
- Participate in the preparation and presentation of data, when applicable
- Develop an internal report tracking and archiving system for SPSS
Qualifications for Data Manager Jobs in Kenya
- Preferably at least 3 years’ of professional experience in data management for research projects
- A Bachelor’s degree in appropriate research related field
- Proficiency in working with statistical and qualitative databases such as NVIVO, SAS, STATA, SPSS etc.
- Demonstrated experience in successfully communicating with users to create systems that meet individual and organizational needs.
- Highly motivated, willing to learn, good team work, service-oriented and able to work under high pressure and within a limited time frame
- Professional use of personal computer utilizing word processing, spreadsheet software programs
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
- Knowledge of USAID projects and terminology is desirable.
- Candidates must be self-motivated and quick learners.
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent English (written and spoken)
