Marine Painter Job Responsibilities
- Selects proper paint, and mixes necessary thinners and additives.
- Applies paint with spray gun, brush, or roller to all surfaces of dredges, barges, and workboats.
- Disassembles, cleans, and lubricates paint gun, regulators, tanks, and hoses. Cleans brushes and rollers.
- Prepares, primes, sands, seals, and patches and paints furniture, surfaces, buildings, and fixtures utilizing all types of painting materials such as varnish, lacquer, shellac, enamel, latex, epoxy, water-proofing and heat resistant finishes.
- Tapes, flushes, repairs and applies texturing, wallpaper, and acoustic layers on a variety of surfaces. Adjusts colors when necessary; utilizes enhanced finishing skills when appropriate.
- Applies materials to new construction, existing, multi-story buildings, alterations, and remodeling.
- Operates, cleans and maintains all painting equipment, including brush, roll, sprayers and electrostatic sprayers, pumps, etc. Safely stores and labels all materials.
- Maintains and repairs soda blasting compressor and accessories.
- Estimates time and materials required; keeps computerized records and submits reports of work performed.
- Erects scaffolding, rigging and ladders as necessary in a manner consistent with safety codes.
- Reads and understands blueprints.
- Offers assistance and advice on materials, designs, and color.
- Assists in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction
- Performs related duties as required.
Shared Responsibilities:
- Maintains appropriate service and repair records.
- Researches, purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals and supplies.
- Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
- May train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area.
- Assists and serves as back up to other Facilities employees.
Minimum qualifications & experience for Marine Painter Kenyan Jobs
- Graduation from high school, supplemented by completion of a NYS (National Youth Service) , private (in-house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work (Trade test certificate).
- Four years as a journey-level painter in a residential and in a commercial, Shipping lines, ferries, boats, barges, industrial, or facilities operations setting, both interior and exterior.
- Be computer, literate.
- Be a team player and have good interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in a physically demanding environment; confined spaces, working at heights, and use of half-face and full-face respiratory equipment.
Special requirements
- Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking.
- Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.
- Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical hazards.
