Position: International Humanitarian Policy Manager – Policy/Advocacy/Research
Location: Johannesburg or Nairobi
Duration: Two-year Fixed Term Contract

This International Humanitarian Policy Manager position with ActionAid International is just the position you are looking for.

Roles & Responsibilities for Humanitarian Policy Manager jobs in Kenya

As the International Humanitarian Policy Manager, your challenge will be;

  • To lead the development and strengthening of AAI’s policy expertise on humanitarian issues and their linkage to longer term resilience building to enable poor and vulnerable people,especially women, to claim their rights.
  • You will support the Federation to define humanitarian policy priorities based on response and resilience programmes and provide systematic, updated and timely policy advice and influence to the external policy
    engagements.
  • You will ensure strategic engagement with movements and allies to inform AA’s policy positions and
    recommendations, including defining alternatives to put women’s rights at the forefront of our approach in responding to emergencies.
  • Your role will be to draw on country-driven policy research, including public policy on humanitarian and resilience issues.
  • You will support appropriate representation at international fora, promoting women leaders and partners to represent ActionAid’s policy alternatives.
  • You will lead ActionAid’s participation in and strategies for the Humanitarian Summit in Turkey in

 

Education, skills and Experience for Policy Manager jobs in Kenya

  • Post-graduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • Over 5 years substantial experience in advising organisational leaders on public policy debates for purposes of strategy development and a proven track record of successfully engaging policy networks and policy-makers to advance the organisation’s change agenda;
  • Strategic thinker and innovator, capable of spotting trends and opportunities and translating these into practical interventions to promote our campaign and policy advocacy objectives
  • Substantive experience of leading and designing multi-country research programmes for purposes of public policy and campaign engagement; and of writing engaging and accessible research reports and briefings for both policy and political
  • Successful track record of fundraising for research, influencing and other policy development work
  • Excellent communicator and skilled media spokesperson, with ability to represent advocacy messages with authority and credibility to the outside world as well as ability to communicate to a lay audience
  • Excellent advocacy and networking skills and connections at international or regional level for advancing AAI’s influencing agenda and public profile.
  • Strong communications skills, good IT skills, including with social media platforms
  • Exceptional women’s rights understanding, analysis and commitment.
