Organizational Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This post is located in UNEP/DEPI at the Nairobi duty station.
Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Climate Change Adaptation Unit (CCAU) Coordinator, the Associate Project Manager will undertake the following responsibilities:-Work with project partners, contractors and project clients to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects; Monitor and analyze performance of assigned projects, their development and implementation; Review relevant documents and reports; Identify problems and issues to be addressed and recommend corrective actions; Liaise with relevant parties; Identify and track follow-up actions; Carry out basic research on selected aspects of programmes, operations and other activities including collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources; Provide substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions; Assist in planning and facilitating workshops; Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies and inputs to publications. Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative meetings, conferences, etc., including proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposing participants, preparation of background documents and presentations and handling logistics; Undertake outreach activities; Participate in the development of training workshops and seminars; Participate in meetings and make presentations on assigned topics/activities; Participate in field missions, including provision of substantive and administrative support and data collection; Coordinate activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements) and preparation of related documents/reports; Perform other related duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in ecology, natural sciences, international development, poverty alleviation, climatology, economics or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management, administration or related area.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English is required. Working knowledge of other UN official languages is desirable.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include a substantive assessment which will be followed by a competency-based interview.
