Kenyatta University wishes to recruit qualified and dedicated applicants for vacant positions in thefollowing offices:
Office of the Deputy Vice – Chancellor (Administration)
i. Chief Legal Officer – Grade 13
Applicants must be holders of a Master of Law and Bachelor of Law degree from a recognized university.
In addition applicants must have the following:
At least ten (10) years of relevant work experience
Strategic thinking capacity, excellent analytical, problem solving, time management and communication skills
Ability to work effectively and lead a team
Excellent reporting skills
Dedicated and motivated individual
A good team player
Duties of a Chief Legal Officer include the following:
To be in-charge of all legal matters of the organization
To take part in high level planning meetings and giving legal advice and opinions
Assessing legal documents of the organization to ensure legal protection
To ensure confidentiality and privacy of all legal data in the organization
To keep track of the latest changes and law regulations and advice the University
To organize legal representation
Advising on corporate governance
Liaising with external Lawyers and other legal bodies
ii. Senior Legal Officer – Grade 12
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor of Law degree from a recognized university.
In addition applicants must have at least seven (7) years of relevant work experience.
Duties of a Senior Legal Officer include the following:
Advising on corporate governance
Liaising with external Lawyers and other legal bodies
Coordinating the implementation of the provisions of all legislation, statutes, regulation and policies administered by the University
Taking minutes during board and management meetings when requested
Compiling weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports on all cases being handled by the University
Prepare opinions, briefs, papers and memoranda as may be required from time to time
Legal Officer -Grade 11
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor of Law degree from a recognized university.
Applicants must have at least two (2) years of relevant work experience.
Duties of a Legal Officer will include the following:
Participating in drawing, negotiating and vetting contracts, leases and other legal instruments
Drafting responses to legal queries and general correspondence
Liaising with Company witnesses and external Advocates on litigation matters
Providing legal opinions and reports on legal matters as may be required
Compiling evidence and other information on cases and forwarding to external Lawyers
Compiling reports on legal matters
Participating in resolving disputes with clients and other parties
Applicants in any of the three (3) positions will also be expected to meet the following requirements:
Have been admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
Be in possession of a current practicing certificate
Proficient in the use of basic computer applications
Have skills to handle:
Staff and students disciplinary processes
Investigations and enquiries
Undertaking other tasks related to legal matters as may be assigned
Terms of Service:
The terms of service for the above include a generous medical scheme, house allowance and commuting allowance. Successful candidates will be offered two (2) year renewable performance – based contract and gratuity will be paid at the end of the contract.
